Searching For The Victims of June 4th (尋訪六四受難者), 2008 – 2011

A compliation of stories translated from Chinese into English about the Tiananmen Square Protests in June of 1989.
Collaboration with Shin Ae Lee

CURRENTLY STILL IN PROGRESS

This project began when we were pointed to Mrs. Ding's book from a passage in Liao Yiwu's The Corpse Walker. Upon reading his interview with the" Tiananman Father," we became impassioned by the concise emotional power this story had in communicating anguish and sorrow of the Tiananmen Square Protest that still persists. We then sought to become more familiar with Mrs. Ding's work. Upon becoming more familiar with her efforts, we were inspired to contribute by initiating the translation of her book 尋訪六四受難者. It took us about a year to find a copy of her book, and we have also tried to get in touch with the Tiananmen Mothers without any success. Since then, we have received a generous outpouring of help from pro-bono translators who have been volunteering their time to render the book accessible for English readers. In addition, we want to contractually make all of the proceeds from the sales of the translated book to be funneled directly to the Tiananmen Mothers.

We believe that through an English translation of her book, these emotionally powerful stories as told by the bereaved will cause a stir in people and inspire them to become more aware and active in bringing about more universal human rights in China.
